Sigatec and Mimotec are expanding in the Iles industrial zone in Sion

The two Valais companies of the Acrotec Group, Sigatec and Mimotec, have expanded their working areas thanks to the acquisition of a new industrial building in Sion by Sigatec.

New Sigatec building in Sion.

Sigatec specializes in the manufacture of silicon micromechanical components for the watchmaking, aerospace and biomedical industries. The company was founded by Mimotec (Acrotec Group) and Ulysse Nardin in 2006. Since then, Sigatec shares its industrial premises at Route des Iles 20, in Sion, with Mimotec, a major player in the Swiss watch industry, founded by Dr Hubert Lorenz in 1998.

Both Sigatec and Mimotec have experienced rapid growth in recent years. In only 4 years, Sigatec has almost quadrupled its workforce, from 15 to more than 50 employees. “We had to find a new site to support this growth,” explains Nicolas Tille, CEO of Sigatec. “The assembly of the silicon parts we produce required more surface area and additional machines.”

Sigatec has expanded its facilities by taking possession of an industrial building adjacent to Chemin Grély 2, also located in Les Iles. This move, which took place in only a few weeks, allowed the company to expand from 400 to 1’000 m2.

Mimotec, a recognized brand in the watchmaking industry, has recently diversified into micro-wheels and test tips. The company also needs to expand to meet the demands of its sustained growth. “Since 2019, we are recording a growth of more than 50% in our business,” says Alain Hess, CEO of Mimotec. “So we also needed to find new space. Sigatec’s departure thus gives us the opportunity to recover its premises in the building we shared and thus increase our surface to 1’800 m2 for our fifty employees.”

A logical synergy for the two companies of the Acrotec Group working on the implementation of a new common clean room for the demanding treatment of silicon micro parts in UV-LIGA technology.
